Back in January I had the pleasure of joining the wonderful O'lovely girls, Laura & Shakira for a photo shoot, here in Melbourne. The theme was 'runaways', so we spent the afternoon shooting at a local train station & getting up to general hijinks.

Talking of changing seasons

The season change is coming, daylight savings is finished, the clocks have fallen back & colourful cardigans are again making their way into the wardrobe of every girl (& fashionable man) in Melbourne.

NYC - The High Line

One place I marked as completely necessary to visit while in NYC was the High Line. I had read about it & was intrigued by the urban re-utilisation project & also the thrilling views from it's various platforms & overpasses.

The story behind the High line is a fascinating one. Here are are a few facts about the High Line:

It was built between 1929 and 1934.

It cost over $130 million in 1930 dollars, equating to more than $2 billion today.

In 1980 the last train runs on the High Line, pulling three carloads of frozen turkeys.

April 2006, construction begins on Section 1 (Gansevoort Street to 20th Street)

2008, Landscape Construction begins on Section 1, with construction and installation of pathways, access points, seating, lighting, and planting.

June 9, 2009, Section 1 (Gansevoort Street to West 20th Street) opens to the public.

June 8, 2011, Section 2 (West 20th Street to West 30th Street) opens to the public.

NYC - City of Sky

 
 

Diana Mini (Lomography Chrome 100 X-Pro & Kodak 400VC)

In a city filled high to the brim with skyscrapers, it was amazing to find that the sky makes a beautiful & stark emergence in New York. The unmovable landscape of crystal blue that peaks & flows like a river through the jungle of steel & concrete. Over central park, the sky hung like a horizontal picture frame, skirted by the canopy of trees, reflected in the spanse of crystal water.

This sky was a hot midsummer sky, the occasional cloud dotted here & there... when the smog would lift on those heat-filled days & the ozone would disperse. A cool blue of high sky would beckon the lights of the sleepless city to waken the night.

Happy 2nd Anniversary Melbourne!

It has been 2 years this week since I first moved to Melbourne... time flies when you are having fun, working, studying etc.

It's hard to imagine what life would have been like if I had stayed in London or if I had moved back to Brisbane... all I can say is Melbourne I love you & for now I may go on holiday occasionally, but I will be coming back to you for a while yet.

It's hard to believe that it is Christmas in a week's time, and then a week after that it is New Year 2012!

2011 has been an amazing, exhausting, rewarding, trying, breathtaking & overwhelming year that I am thankful for beyond measure. Between finishing my study full-time, working full-time, travelling to the USA, being involved in my first photographic exhibition & online web comedy, I can hardly say that it has been an uneventful year.

Thank you to all of those people who have played their part in my life in 2011, may 2012 be bigger, better & beautiful!

These are a few of the photographs that were taken as a part of my contribution to the online comedy web series, Shutterbugs. The theme for my episode was 'Stakeout', so I decided to stake out the streets of Fitzroy with my L-CA, Diana Mini, Diana F+ and La Sardinia (& loads of film!).

Guggenheim New York City - Diana Mini

The beautiful majestic Frank Lloyd Wright Guggenheim Museum is in many ways both a cultural & architectural icon, but when you stand in it's shadow while glaring up at the long curves of it's facade it almost feels as if it breathes, deep heaving breaths into it's surroundings. While inside, I felt like I lost the concept of where I was a few times, due to it's shrine like ambience, you feel like you are within such a holy space that you no longer wonder what exists outside it's walls.

Sometimes a photograph by itself feels a little isolated, yet when you add more photographs it seems to strengthens the images. This is why I love making Lomowalls... sometimes you just want to display a spectrum of colour, a series of themes or you want to tell a story.
